Michael Patrick Partners' Annual Report Design and Brand Development Firm Picks Up New Awards and Recognition PALO ALTO, CA, December 8, 2005 Michael Patrick Partners (MPP) of Palo Alto, CA, and Portland, OR has recently gained additional momentum for its annual report design fueled by new awards and recognition. During the past few months, the annual reports the firm developed for Pacific Sunwear of California (PacSun), Plantronics, and Umpqua Holdings have received key national awards and recognition. Over the years MPP has designed and produced hundreds of annual reports. Its client list includes big corporate names such as Beringer Blass Wine Estates, ETRADE FINANCIAL, Genentech, Oracle, Palm, PeopleSoft, Symantec, and The North Face. Plus, a long list of IPOs have sought the firm's assistance when forging the unknown waters of annual report development. In recent months MPP has received recognition for creating engaging financial stories for three highly successful companies, the most significant being the 2004 annual report it created for Portland's Umpqua Holdings. That assignment alone has brought in awards and recognition from Black Book's AR100 (the nation's most coveted annual report design award), Communication Arts Exhibit online (the world's most respected publication reporting on leaders in the field of design and advertising), Creativity 35, Graphic Design usa (GDUSA), and Portland's Rosey Awards. The other big winner was the 2004 PacSun annual report, whose design has garnered awards from Creativity 35, GDUSA, How magazine, and NIRI (National Investor Relations Institute) and a move by McGraw-Hill Education to include the annual as a case study in a new college-level accounting textbook. Finally, the design created for the 2004 Plantronics annual report contributed to the year's tally by winning another GDUSA award. Considering that many corporations simply view the annual report as a mandatory financial reporting document, MPP is most proud of its ability to help clients present a tightly integrated marketing message, enabling the annual report to take life as a valuable branded communication tool. "Because an annual report is one of the few communication documents a chairman or CEO will take interest in, it's especially rewarding to hear a client tell us that the people in the corner offices also rely on our annuals to help with marketing, recruiting, and public affairs," says Dan O'Brien, co-founder of MPP. "We've fine-tuned our creative process to the point where our clients who are experienced in the world of annual report design remark that our counsel is extraordinary," says Duane "Doo" Maidens, also a co-founder of MPP and its Portland creative director. "No bumps in the road. No excuses. Just walls covered with design awards and solid ROI. But I think the most valuable counsel we provide our clients is to think of the annual report message—and the design—as evolutionary not revolutionary." Long-term annual report relationships the firm continues to nurture include Cholestech (7 years), Molecular Devices (5 years), PacSun (5 years), Plantronics (5 years), and Union Bank of California (5 years). These new awards now push the firm's total to 400.
